Nvidia is reportedly preparing to launch its RTX 40-series SUPER graphics cards in early 2024, and to make room for them, the company is halting the production of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 models.
According to a Chinese site that tracks the inventory and orders of Nvidia’s board partners, Nvidia has shipped its last orders of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 GPUs for Q4-2023, and the board partners are now waiting for the arrival of the new SUPER variants. The RTX 4070, however, will continue to be produced, as it does not have a direct SUPER replacement.
The RTX 40-series SUPER cards are expected to be announced at the CES 2024 event in January, and they will include three SKUs: the RTX 4080 SUPER, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and the RTX 4070 SUPER. These cards are designed to consolidate Nvidia’s position in the performance-enthusiast segments, and they will feature higher core counts, clock speeds, and memory bandwidth than their non-SUPER counterparts.
The RTX 4080 SUPER, for instance, is rumored to have 12,288 CUDA cores, 24 GB of GDDR6X memory, and a 384-bit memory bus, while the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is said to have 10,752 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR6X memory, and a 320-bit memory bus.
The discontinuation of the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 GPUs does not mean that they will disappear from the market entirely, as there is still a high demand for them, especially from the AI sector. Nvidia is likely to resume the production of these cards at a later date, or at least until the next-generation RTX 5000 series cards are introduced in late 2024.
For now, though, the focus is on the RTX 40-series SUPER cards, which are expected to offer a significant performance boost over the current models.
