OpenAI Launches Custom GPT Platform For ChatGPT Plus Subscribers

OpenAI, known for its revolutionary ChatGPT (that studies reveal it’s getting less accurate), has unveiled a new platform that empowers users to create custom AI agents, referred to as GPTs, without requiring any coding skills. This development, introduced at OpenAI’s inaugural developer conference, DevDay, marks an evolution from the traditional ChatGPT model, which was already serving an astonishing 100 million weekly users.

The GPT platform will soon feature a GPT Store, where these AI agents can be accessed. While precise details about the store’s functionality are limited, OpenAI has expressed its intention to compensate creators based on the usage of their GPTs. This platform is initially accessible to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers, allowing the latter to create internal GPTs tailored to their specific business needs.

Greater Customization of ChatGPT

OpenAI’s motivation for launching the custom GPTs stems from user demand for greater customization of ChatGPT. Earlier, they introduced Custom Instructions to cater to user preferences, but the desire for more control persisted. GPTs alleviate the need for users to manually input prompts and instruction sets.

The platform enables users to define how their GPTs interact with people and comes with valuable features like web browsing, DALL-E integration for image generation, and OpenAI’s Code Interpreter tool for executing software. Users can also upload custom data in the “Knowledge” section of the builder interface. Furthermore, OpenAI allows GPTs to connect with external services, starting with Canva and Zapier, through a feature called Actions.

OpenAI differentiates its platform from competitors by emphasizing utility rather than focusing on AI bots that mimic human personas. This move signifies OpenAI’s commitment to its primary objective of advancing towards AGI, or artificial general intelligence.

Privacy and Security

In terms of privacy and security, creators of GPTs won’t have access to the content of user interactions, and OpenAI will closely monitor activities to prevent fraud, hate speech, and inappropriate content. To access GPTs through the GPT Store, users will need to verify their identity, and initially, GPTs will be available via shareable web links.

Ultimately, this venture into custom GPTs not only meets user demand for tailored AI solutions but also holds significant revenue potential for OpenAI, aligning with their ambitious goal of achieving AI superintelligence and garnering substantial investment interest.
